The New York Police Department confirmed in a statement to USA TODAY that officers responded to a call of a located stolen school bus in Brooklyn on Thursday afternoon.

The officers attempted to gain entry to the bus, which was occupied by an adult male, but “the individual began to resist,” according to the statement.

Officers tried to deploy a Taser on the man, but police said he fled in the bus towards Queens. He struck a building before getting stuck in a traffic jam, where he hit multiple civilian car. Later Thursday, he was stopped and taken into custody after driving through multiple police precincts.

Anthony Reyes, 43, is facing charges related to the incident including grand larceny, reckless endangerment, forgery, unauthorized use of a vehicle, criminal possession of stolen property, obstruction of a governmental authority, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of an accident with injury, police said.

Officers tracked the bus using its GPS, CBS New York reported

Ali Sulimanalmaweri, a witness to the incident, said the bus struck every single car on on block, WABC in New York reported.

“One of those cars that was right here, there was a lady inside, and if that cop did not take that lady out, she would’ve been dead by that time,” Sulimanalmaweri said. “So he pulled her out and he hit the car again, he kept hitting the car so he could run away.”
