Harvest On The Hill

By Phoenix Staff Writer.

Harvest on The Hill started 2014 and has since grown into what community residents say, “… is not just an event for the kids, this is an event the whole community needs to see. Cornhill is not all about violence, there is unity amongst residence in Cornhill.”

Harvest on the Hill was originated by Utica native Senora Pierce. Senora saw a need for not only local children to have a safe place to Trick or Treat but also an event for networking.

This year’s Harvest on The Hill event has exceeded the 2016 Harvest on the Hill event and hopes are to have even more community participation in 2018. The community participation has been stellar and organizers thank the local community for coming out providing candy, treats and community support.

Bohling’s Auto Service has supported this event from the very first year it started and event organizers extend their sincere gratitude. They are pleased that new businesses are participating such as Adirondack Bank, Homeownership Center and MVP Health Care.

For The Good, the parent company of The Study Buddy Club, was another new business joining the Harvest. The FTG provided information on this valuable after-school program that provides local kids with weekly tutoring at the Westside Center and from Hamilton College students with their homework. Teens get a meal from Texas Roadhouse or Symeon’s and they are also taught valuable life skills, study skills and have fun while they are learning.

Judging from the photos from this year’s Harvest on the Hill event this was yet another successful event that took place in Utica’s Cornhill area. Yes Cornhill! This event proves that there is unity amongst the Cornhill community that the children who play in these streets, attend school and live here are valued, acknowledged and supported.

In addition to all of the festivities, there was a collection taken for Puerto Rico, whether you donating water, pampers, hygiene items, or nonperishable foods items Local residence was asked to bring any items that would help in the devastating hurricane that has struck Puerto Rico leaving that Island in total ruin.

Thank You to Senora Pierce, friends and Family for putting on such a Great event. Please see more information below on more information on Harvest on The Hill and how you or your business could help make 2018 an even better event.

Harvest on the Hill is a Halloween Stroll in Cornhill, which starts on the corners of Oneida and James and continues to the corners of Taylor and James. Local community members, agencies, organizations and businesses, set-up a table along that route, and distribute candy and other treats to community children. In addition to candy, there are several DJ’s, Utica Police Department, Oneida County Sheriff’s Department and Utica Fire Department, as well stationed along the route for entertainment.

As small as it is in thought, the premise is that candy will bring the kids, the kids would, in turn, bring their families and the blocks represented along the stroll would bring the community. Over the past two years, much to our surprise, the turnout has continuously superseded our expectations! During HOH 2016, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department issued over 500 ID cards to community youth!

We are happy to offer you the opportunity to become a valuable sponsor of our Harvest on the Hill for the event which will be October 2018. Our goal is to ensure that we have enough candy, snacks, toys, food, and/or activities for all the strollers and children present. In addition, we are seeking community-based organizations, agencies, and businesses to come out and meet our community members by setting up an informational table with an activity of your organization’s choosing.
