LIVERPOOL, N.Y. – The CNY Diaper Bank is hosting its sixth annual “Make a Mother’s Day” drive and is inviting community members and businesses to help local families in need by donating funds that will go directly toward diaper purchases. The drive will be held virtually throughout the month of May.
Donations this year will be matched up to $10,000, thanks to a grant awarded by The John Ben Snow Foundation & Memorial Trust.
“Diaper need is an everyday crisis faced by millions of families around the nation and thousands in our community,” said Michela Hugo, founder of the CNY Diaper Bank. “Moms who experience diaper need are more likely to experience depression. A donation to the diaper bank can be a meaningful way to honor a special ‘mom’ in your life as we celebrate Mother’s Day. Your donation can provide comfort to babies and peace of mind to mothers and guardians who are struggling.”
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, The CNY Diaper Bank has doubled its diaper distribution program and has yet to see the need drop. This Mother’s Day, the organization asks for the support of individuals, local groups and businesses to ensure it can continue providing diapers to families experiencing financial crises.
Monetary donations can be made at cnydiaperbank.org, and for those who wish to donate
in honor of someone special this Mother’s Day, a tribute card can be printed or emailed from the diaper bank’s website. Community members, local businesses and organizations can hold virtual fundraisers at no cost on the free fundraising platform Givebutter. A link to the “Make a Mother’s Day” fundraising page can be found on The CNY Diaper Bank’s website.
The diaper bank is also actively seeking corporate sponsors. For more information on how to run a virtual fundraiser and corporate sponsorship opportunities, or for more ways to get involved, please contact email@example.com.
During the 2020 “Make a Mother’s Day” diaper drive, the CNY Diaper Bank collected enough funds to purchase more than 250,000 diapers. The CNY Diaper Bank works with 36 partner agencies in the area to distribute over 185,000 diapers to more than 3,500 local babies and toddlers each month. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the diaper bank began distributing diapers directly for the first time through monthly drive-up events.
The CNY Diaper Bank has distributed more than 3 million diapers since its inception. It is a volunteer-run nonprofit that was founded in May 2016 after local mother Michela Hugo learned that agencies in the area were forced to turn away families in need of diapers. Hugo used the support and guidance of the National Diaper Bank Network to start a diaper bank in Syracuse. Though diapers are an essential need for babies, they are not covered by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or by Women, Infants and Children (WIC) benefits.
