Where: Oneida Square roundabout at 11 am, march to Munson William Proctor Art Institute 11:30, conclude at 12 noon

Utica, NY — On this Saturday, October 17th, Utica will hold a peaceful rally to call attention to the power of women’s votes and to energize women to vote in this election. The Utica rally will be one of more than 250 nationwide. The demonstration is being held almost four years after the first Women’s March in 2017 and one hundred years after women gained the right to vote.

“On October 17, people from around the country will take action to finish what we started when women marched in record numbers in January 2017,” said Jill Farnham-Us, a spokesperson for Indivisible Mohawk Valley. “The most crucial election of our lifetimes is underway, and the current administration is threatening to stay in office no matter its outcome. We’re taking action in Utica to say that women will decide this election, defend its integrity, and fight together for the feminist future we need.”

Women in this country are bearing the brunt of multiple crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, white supremacy and nationalism, an ever-deepening economic disaster, a worsening climate crisis, and a family/domestic care crisis. From Utica, NY to Homer, Alaska women are rising up to demand a government of, by, and for the people.

“We are joining together as women from all walks of life to vote in record numbers, demand that every single vote is counted, and deliver our democracy,” said Farnham-Us. “We have suffered through this season of crises, and we have had enough. We are rising up here in Utica to take our power back.”

Participants are required to wear masks and to practice physical distancing whenever possible.
