Clinton, NY – The Kirkland Art Center is hosting Emerald Rae as part of their KAC Live concert series. A folksinger from the seaside town of Gloucester, Massachusetts, Emerald Rae pairs ornamented vocals with groovy percussive fiddle, pushing the boundaries of imagination with a refreshingly colorful palate. The concert is on Saturday, February 22nd at 7:00pm.
“I first met Emerald at a fiddle camp led by the legendary Alasdair Fraser, and when Alasdair says that someone is doing things on a fiddle that no one has ever done before, you believe him!” said Nora Revenaugh, the KAC Live coordinator. “Emerald lives up to that hype. Her music is searing, soulful, and endlessly creative— and the chordal, percussive violin that she uses to accompany her singing is a refreshing innovation in a folk world that is often dominated by guitars. Emerald is a master performer, and to see her in a venue as intimate as the KAC is a wonderful opportunity. This show really is a must-see!”
Released in 2018, her self-titled album, Emerald Rae, offers a rare scope of vision and reveals her depth as an artist. Rae’s extraordinary chops transform the fiddle into anything from bagpipes to flamenco or electric guitar, slap bass or ukulele. Her direct and intimate voice, alternately high and honeyed then gutsy and soulful, encompasses both wind and sea, animal and etheric.
