UTICA, NY – Due to an administrative error, the Birnie Bus workers’ vote to unionize and join CSEA will be delayed. The new date is Friday, November 8, 2019 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Training Room adjacent to the Driver’s Lounge at the Employer’s facility located at 2245 Dwyer Ave., Utica, New York.
At the start of the campaign, the employer, union and the organizing workers agreed to which titles would be included in the bargaining unit, including school bus drivers. Per regulation, the NLRB must post an election notice detailing the titles that will be included in the bargaining unit at least three days in advance of an election.
On Tuesday, October 29, the NLRB issued the required election notice with the bus driver title excluded. A new election notice will be posted that includes all of the agreed upon titles. We would not want to proceed with the election until the error is resolved, as it could be confusing and sway the results of the vote.
We look forward to the workers at Birnie Bus exercising their right to build their own power by forming a union under CSEA.
