Raising Funds to Battle Pediatric Cancer
UTICA, NY – 315K for the Cure, Inc., a local non-profit dedicated to supporting local families battling pediatric cancer, in partnership with The Celtic Harp, is hosting a “Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl” on Saturday, October 12, 2019. The event begins at 12pm and lasts through the evening. All day long, patrons will enjoy drink specials, live music and DJs throughout all the five participating locations including: The Celtic Harp, O’Donnell’s Irish Pub & Grill, 5 Points Public House, Lukin’s and Luna’s of Varick. 100% of the proceeds will benefit Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital and support pediatric cancer patients and their families.
315K for the Cure was founded by two local pediatric cancer survivors, Colin LaReaux and Brooke Hoffman, 5 years ago. This duo has a few things in common: they love fitness, they love beer, and they both battled Hodgkin’s Disease as children. So, they teamed up and decided to put their commonalities to work, hosting fitness-based fundraising events and happy hours, to benefit a cause so close to them. “We understand firsthand how difficult the treatment process and resulting side effects, both physical and mental, can be for families,” said Brooke. “With the help of our friends, families, and a tremendous outpouring of support from those in our local and extended communities, our donations to date have helped purchase video games, books, art supplies and more for use by the children and their families during treatment at Upstate Galisano Children’s Hospital.”
Since its inception, 315K for the Cure has raised and donated over $85,000 to aid pediatric cancer patients. A big part of that amount is thanks to local business owners who have worked with the organization to host events, like their yearly fall fundraiser at The Celtic Harp. New this year, owner Tom Powers approached 315K for the Cure about adding a component with the hopes of raising even more funds, the pub crawl. “When Tom approached us about making this year’s Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser bigger and better, we were so grateful,” said Colin. “Tom has been a huge supporter of our organization, hosting various events throughout the year to raise funds for these families. His support has been huge and has made a major impact on the lives of the kids and their families at Golisano.”
Those wishing to attend the event, on Saturday, October 12th, should check-in at The Celtic Harp starting at 12pm and continuing throughout the day. Wristbands are $10 and include two drink tickets, drink specials at all participating locations and entertainment. The first 200 registrants will also receive a koozie. Participating locations include: The Celtic Harp, O’Donnell’s Irish Pub & Grill, 5 Points Public House, Lukin’s and Luna’s of Varick. The event is sponsored by NY State Chive, McCraith Beverages, Passalacqua & Associates, John Raspante Law, and McGrogan Design.
