Why are term limits for the Supreme Court Justices of the United States needed? As well as for judges of federal courts below the Supreme Court level?
Why write about term limits? Because we are in the 21st century, not the eighteenth. Are we a democracy? If we are, we ought to show the whole world we are a true democracy.
To establish term limits for the Supreme Court Justices, Congress must pass a constitutional amendment. This would show the country that they respect the will of the people. The Constitution was amended twenty-seven times, so we are overdue for a term limit amendment.
Presently, Supreme Court Justices are appointed for life. It is absolutely preposterous! We are the only country in the whole world that have appointed Justices for life. The majority of Justices serve between twenty to thirty years or more.
The majority of states require judges to step down after seventy years of age. This is an excellent practice to rejuvenate the judiciary system.
Term limits would usher out judges with mental weakness and loss of their resolve and bring new life into the highest court of the country with dynamism to the judiciary.
I advocate a constitutional amendment establishing term limits for Supreme Court Justices. the constitution does not mention life tenure. Term limits would give people a better, more efficient Supreme Court.
