Mohawk Valley Performing Arts students present Tiny Tots ballet program at Kirkland Art Center, 9 1/2 E. Park Row, April 8 and 9.

The Kirkland Art Center in Clinton has long been the home of a special Tiny Tots show that provides an intimate venue for young children to experience ballet – many of them for the very first time. The show is presented by Mohawk Valley Performing Arts, which gives young ballet students the opportunity to participate in professional level ballet productions every year. Participating in full stage productions gives the students a broader idea of what it takes to put on a performance. Each year the upper-level MVPA students take what they have learned and put it into practice during the annual production of Tiny Tots at the KAC.

Tiny Tots is a completely student-led production that is put on for local Kindergarteners and Pre-School students.  Every spring the MVPA dancers choose a story, select music, choreograph dances, design sets and rehearse and prepare this special production. It is truly a production that is a learning experience for everyone.  The oldest students have the opportunity to try their hand at leading a production. The dancers who perform are the usually those in their tweens and early teens and Tiny Tots gives them a chance to dance larger roles than they likely have had the opportunity to do in other MVPA productions.

The audience of young children always delights in this wonderful show that is truly tailored to their interests. The show is interactive and allows the children to see the dancers up close, hear the story read to them as well as danced out before their eyes, and they get to meet the dancers after the show.  It is a lovely experience not to be missed.

This year the show is supported in part by funds from the Stewart’s Holiday Match. The performances are set for Monday, April 8th and Tuesday, April 9th, 2019.  The performances will be at the following times: 9:30 am, 10:30 am and 12:30 pm on Monday; and 9:30 am and 10:30 am on Tuesday.  Each performance lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Admission is $3 per person. Attending adults should be limited to the number needed to supervise. Reservations for school groups are on a first come-first served basis. Space permitting, parents may bring their children individually to the performances, but they should also call to confirm that space is available.

For reservations, call the Kirkland Art center at 315-853-8871 or email Tuesday through Friday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
