On Sunday, July 15, 2018, the 12th Annual CNY Youth Fishing Derby was held at Camp Sitrin and was a huge success!
The derby was initiated in 1984 by the late Dr. John F. Millett who was Chairman of the Utica Kiwanis “Take a Kid Fishing Day” at Graffenburg Reservoir from 1984-1996. Over the past 12 years the derby, with primary sponsors CNY Youth Fishing Educators and Sitrin Health Care Center, has been dedicated to his memory.
Additional sponsors were Marge Millett & family, Morgan’s Wholesale Bait, MTO Lures, Hometown Bait & Tackle, Nancy Carey, Oneida County Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Foundation, Adirondack Wild Turkey Unlimited, Boats Unlimited, and NYS DEC Fisheries.
Cara Bulson-Arcuri and Bill Girvan were co-chairs. Dedicated volunteers included Susanne Girvan, Lorraine Bulson, Russell Arcuri, Addison Arcuri, Vanessa Jones, Mike Barretta, Don Hahn, Nick Galotti, Tom Szabla, John Pitarresi, Bob Beck, Leslie VanNort, Taylor Degni, Debra Degni, Eric Degni, Porter Dickinson, Rick Muller, Jason Hatcher, Chuck Martin, and Audra Williams (lifeguard).
Also, we honored two long-time CNY Youth Fishing Educators: Tom Yacovella and Wheeler Muller, who both passed away in 2018.
There were 70 young anglers (51 entered fish), along with their parents & grandparents, participated in this great family leisure special event.
Over 200 fish were caught and released by the young anglers.
