Enjoy some quality time with family, friends, neighbors, school and civic groups, and local businesses – and show pride in your Utica Olmsted Parks!
The Central New York Conservancy offers a new activity – Clean Up Your Park Day – from 11 a.m. til 2 p.m.on Friday, June 8. Participation is free and open to the general public. Individuals and groups will meet at the picnic pavilion in F.T. Proctor Park to receive assignments. The City of Utica will provide rakes and plastic bags. Participants may wish to bring gardening or work gloves to wear.
“In previous years, the Conservancy celebrated ‘I Love My Park Day,’ which is observed throughout NY State on the first Saturday in May,” said Peter C. Falzarine, the Conservancy’s executive director. “We decided to change things up this year and to conduct our park clean-up one month later, when the weather is warmer and flowers are beginning to bloom.”
“There are 62 acres of Olmsted-designed park to clean in F.T. Proctor Park,” said Falzarine. “We have leaves to rake, litter to pick up, stairways to sweep, and twigs and other debris to remove. The old adage says that many hands will make light work and with everyone’s help, we can really make sure that F.T. Proctor Park shines for visitors and regular park users as we get ready for a busy summer in the parks.”
If you would like to volunteer, please contact Falzarine at 315.735-5534, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or email@example.com. There is also a volunteer contact form available on the Conservancy’s website at www.uticaolmstedparks.org.
