Mohawk Valley Community College announces the following new appointments, employee title changes, and promotions as approved by the Board of Trustees since March 19, 2018:

*   Kirsten Edwards, Technical Assistant – Admissions
*   Matthew English, Peace Officer
*   Erica Kennard, Residence Life Associate
*   Richard Peroni, Peace Officer
*   Alexander Sperling, Peace Officer

Elyssa Arnone-Earl was appointed to the position of Coordinator of the Center for Leadership Excellence. As such, she will meet community needs by coordinating the development and delivery of leadership programs for personal enrichment and professional development. Prior to joining MVCC, she worked at Upstate Cerebral Palsy as an event specialist and then later as the director of community development. She also has acted as a communication specialist at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes; program manager for the Brooklyn Academy of Science and the environment and education outreach coordinator, both at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden; and academic advisor at Jamestown Public Schools and Cahutauqua Striders. Arnone-Earl holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental and plant biology from Ohio University and a master’s degree in adolescence education from Utica College.

Kirsten Edwards was appointed to the position of Technical Assistant – Admissions and will provide technical support to assist in the efficient operations of the Admissions Office. Edwards has worked at MVCC as a part-time professional since 2015. She holds an associate degree in general studies from Herkimer College and a bachelor’s degree in communications from Southern New Hampshire University.

Matthew English was appointed to the position of Peace Officer in the Department for Public Safety. In accordance with Section 6306 of the NYS Education Law, the Board of Trustees has the authority to designate one of more Public Safety Officers as Peace Officer. These designated officers have the powers as set forth in Section 2.20 of the Criminal Procedure Law. Prior to joining MVCC, English worked as a police officer in Albany and the Town of Kirkland. He completed Police Training – Phase 1 Academy with the Cazenovia Police, and completed Basic Police Training at the Little Falls Police Academy.

Erica Kennard was appointed to the position of Residence Life Associate, in which she will provide specialized technical assistance to administrative staff in the Student and Residence Life offices. She also will serve as the primary point of contact for prospective students in the Residence Life Office and will be responsible for leading students through the multi-faceted College and Residence Hall enrollment process. Kennard worked previously at MVCC as an administrative assistant to the Associate Dean of Students and Residence Life Services, and most recently held a position at Colgate University as a senior administrative assistant to the Vice President and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid. She holds an associate degree in Liberal Arts from MVCC and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from SUNY Polytechnic Institute.

Richard Peroni was appointed to the position of part-time Senior Public Safety Officer/Peace Officer in the Department for Public Safety. In accordance with Section 6306 of the NYS Education Law, the Board of Trustees has the authority to designate one of more Public Safety Officers as Peace Officer. These designated officers have the powers as set forth in Section 2.20 of the Criminal Procedure Law. Peroni earned his associate degree in Criminal Justice from MVCC in 1978 and has held positions in security and police departments since then. He served as a security guard at UHL Security and Protective Agency in Westernville, a Safety/Security Campus Patrolman and Security Officer at MVCC. After those positions, he served as a police officer for the Village of Ilion Police Department, and most recently, was a police officer and field training officer for the City of Rome Police Department since 1985.

Alexander Sperling was appointed to the position of Peace Officer in the Department for Public Safety. In accordance with Section 6306 of the NYS Education Law, the Board of Trustees has the authority to designate one of more Public Safety Officers as Peace Officer. These designated officers have the powers as set forth in Section 2.20 of the Criminal Procedure Law. Prior to joining MVCC, Sperling was employed at Hannaford Bros. in Washington Mills. He earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice from MVCC.
