For The Good has begun sending out letters to raise funds for the ongoing community development program, the Study Buddy Club, run in conjunction with Hamilton College since 2002.
This tutoring, mentoring and cultural development program has transformed the lives and grades of hundreds of inner-city youth over the years. This year the program has expanded to include regular Wednesday afterschool sessions at the Westside Community Center. Funds are needed to assist in transporting the Buddies from Proctor High School to the Westside Center. Though the agency has been promised to fund through Assemblyman Brindisi’s office through the Dept. of Children and Family Services and through Senator Griffo’s Office through the Dept. of Education no funds have been received. Nevertheless, volunteers and agency staff struggle to maintain the bi-monthly trips to the college, where middle and high school students are tutored by college students and the weekly homework sessions.
Funds are also sought for the continuation of the Community Gardens which provide free organic produce to hundreds of residents living in Utica’s “Food Dessert.”
If you have not received a letter please consider sending your tax-deductible donation to For the Good, 1113 Linwood Place, Utica. It will be greatly appreciated and put to good use.
