The Study Buddy Club is a tutoring, mentoring and cultural enrichment program of For The Good Inc. in conjunction with Hamilton College. The on-campus component which has run for 15 years now includes a Utica based afterschool program. We provide local children help with their homework, activities, life skills and also a meal provided either by Texas Roadhouse or Symeon’s. This program runs every Wednesday from 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM and Saturdays 11:00AM-4:00 PM.

Introducing the Buddy Check System
This program will teach young adults how to balance a checkbook, provide rewards for receiving a 90% or above on homework/test assignments, keeping their nails clean, making sure their appearance is presentable and for any other outstanding community services they perform.

Each week each Buddy will acquire a total of ‘funds’ earned for that week. They will be taught how to balance their checkbooks from what they have earned for the week and be able to purchase goods from the onsite store. We intend to implement this program beginning this December and will run it until end of school year June 2018.

An additional goal is also to teach the value of saving money. At the end of the school year, there will be 3 grand prizes (totaling $200 each in value) available which each Buddy will be able to purchase. The temptation to spend weekly on items that will be available once money is earned will be great but, the larger picture will be to teach the value of earning and saving to outweigh the desire to spend weekly. Saving money and or budgeting funds for the end goal teaches the value of spending wisely.

For The Good is actively seeking a local bank to sponsor our Buddy Checks System to garner assist in such a valuable program for our young people. FTG, Inc. is always in need of volunteers, monetary donations, and business who are in need of advertising through the Utica Phoenix.  Please feel free to contact For The Good Inc. @ 315.797.2417
