Special guest racers to entertain Father’s Day weekend crowds
Vernon, N.Y. – June 6, 2017 – Camel and ostrich races are returning to Vernon Downs once again this year. With more than 5,000 people that come out each year to watch these unlikely racers, the event has turned into one of the more popular racing events of the season. This year, the furry and feathered friends will entertain audiences Father’s Day weekend on Saturday, June 17 with a post time of 6:45 p.m.
As in the past, there is no wagering on the camel and ostrich races, which will take place between regularly scheduled harness racing that evening. The ostrich race will take place after race 3 at approximately 7:30 p.m., and the camel race after race 6 at approximately 8:30 p.m. There will be free admission and free general parking for all in attendance.
Also on the schedule for Father’s Day weekend is a special afternoon of racing on Sunday starting at 1:05 p.m. with New York’s best three-year-old trotters in the $500,000 Empire Breeders Classic and the New York Sire Stakes. Guests in attendance are invited to enter various giveaways, including a trip for two to a New York Yankees game and a chance to win a riding lawnmower courtesy of Clinton Tractor.
Guests of all ages are invited to enjoy these special events as well as all harness races during the Vernon Downs season. Only guests 18 years of age and older are permitted to wager on racing and take place in special promotions.
