Mohawk Valley Community College will host the annual MVCC and Utica College Combined Bands Concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, in Schafer Theater, Information Technology Building, at MVCC’s Utica Campus.
The show will feature more than 70 musicians of all ages and abilities from across the Mohawk Valley. Each band will perform its own set, and then one together. The concert is free and open to the public.
The MVCC Concert Band, under the direction of Barb Seaton, will present “The Boys of the Old Brigade” by W. Paris Chambers, “Fandango for Flutes” by Eric Osterling, a medley of tunes by Irving Berlin, “Mother Hubbard March” by John Philip Sousa, “Einzugsmarsch der Bojaren” by Johna Halvorsen, and an arrangement of Johannes Brahms’ “Hungarian Dance No .5.”
Under the direction of Michael J. DiMeo, the Utica College Band will play “Frederick’s Black Devils” by Paul Murtha, “Land of Liberty” by John Wasson, “Valdresmarsjen” by Johannes Hanssen, selected “Slavonic Dances” by Antonin Dvorak, “Moorside March” by Gustav Holst, and a medley of tunes made famous by Frank Sinatra.
Together, the ensemble will perform “Polka and Fugue” by Jaromir Weinberger (Seaton conducting) and conclude with a medley of John Williams music (DiMeo conducting).
